Philip is already in demand as a choral clinician with many confirmed workshops in the diary. His workshops can take several different forms. Below is a summary of what you might expect at each:
Conference Session/Seminar - "The Art of Choral Arranging"
Philip Lawson, for 18 years a baritone with, and principal arranger for The King's Singers, and recipient of a Grammy Award for his 10 arrangements on The King's Singers' album Simple Gifts, gives detailed insight on the processes and techniques he uses in choral arranging. This entertaining session is suitable either for mixed choirs (with and without instruments) or a cappella groups and will provide ideas and inspiration for you to arrange for your choirs at home. Ideally suited for music educators and university-level students in music degree programs, both choral and instrumental.
Philip Lawson will spend 3-5 days working with your school choir in the scope of the classroom rehearsal during the school day. He will work with your choir on vocal technique, expression, balance, blend etc., and any other choral elements that may be particular to your ensemble. Supplement your curriculum with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work closely with a choral master!
This 1-day choral event is an opportunity for your choir to perform to and receive feedback and critique from Philip Lawson. A multiple choir event, this closed clinic offers your choirs the chance to hear many others and to evaluate and analyze their performances and Mr. Lawson's incisive comments. It will provide an excellent way to expose your students to proper constructive criticism and a chance for them to apply the analysis and evaluation of musical performances standards in the National Standards for Visual and Performing Arts.
The Choral Workshop is the most popular choice among high school, university, and church choirs because it can utilize all of them at once! The workshop is a 2-3 day multi-choir event, performing the music of Philip Lawson. A list of his compositions and arrangements will be made available for each director, along with ordering information. 1-2 days are utilized for rehearsals, with Mr. Lawson conducting the individual choirs and providing musical insight into his pieces. The workshop culminates in a concert, conducted by Mr. Lawson, on the final afternoon or evening. The individual choirs can perform alone and/or together as part of a large ensemble. Tickets may be sold.
Given the appropriate lead time, and space in Mr. Lawson's diary, you will have the opportunity to commission a piece especially for one of the events listed above, for a lower-than normal commission fee!
Mr. Lawson charges listed rates plus transportation, meals, and lodging. A 50% deposit for the event is due at contract, and the remaining 50% is due on the first day of the event.
